Candelaria and Güímar bring together a seaside pilgrimage town and a park of stepped pyramids, gardens and exhibitions. From Villa Dolce Vita in Armeñime, this is a way to balance pool days with a cultural outing on Tenerife’s eastern side.
Plan for two different visits: Candelaria’s basilica is free to enter, while the Pirámides de Güímar Ethnographic Park and Botanical Garden charges admission. Ongoing work around the basilica also means that your walk must follow the routes available on the day.

Planning a day in Candelaria and Güímar
Our suggested order is to explore the pyramids in the morning, stop for lunch and continue to Candelaria afterwards. This works particularly well on Mondays, when the basilica opens in the afternoon. Allow for driving, parking, breaks and the return journey to the villa.
You do not need to cover every route. If you prefer less walking, choose a shorter park visit or spend the outing in Candelaria alone. Visitors who enjoy reading exhibitions and exploring gardens may want more time in Güímar and a shorter coastal stop. These are planning suggestions, not a booked excursion or a guaranteed schedule.
Candelaria basilica: admission and opening hours
The council’s visitor information lists free admission to the Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria. Usual opening hours are 7:30 am–7:30 pm, Tuesday to Sunday, and 3 pm–7:30 pm on Mondays.
This is a working place of worship. Respect services and staff instructions when visiting. Access to the Virgin’s chapel, or camarín, follows a separate timetable; the basilica’s opening hours do not mean that this area is always open. Check ahead if it is a particular reason for your visit.
The Plaza de la Patrona and the statues of the Guanche rulers are part of Candelaria’s familiar setting. However, the current building works need to shape your plans. You can add a break in town and a walk along the sections that are open, without assuming that the entire seafront is accessible as one continuous route.
Works, access and parking in Candelaria
The council provides information about the redevelopment of the Plaza de la Patrona and its surroundings. The project includes the San Blas promenade and changes to pedestrian areas. Proposed accessibility improvements should not be mistaken for a finished route available today.
Its visitor notice about the works identifies parking alternatives near the cemetery, at La Cardonera, along Rambla de los Menceyes and around Naves de Don Sixto. Use these as arrival references, then check signs, availability and the actual walking distance on the day. Do not rely on parking immediately outside the basilica.
A Diario de Avisos report dated 1 October 2026 describes work on Antón Guanche and the progressive removal of parking spaces. Old photographs therefore cannot establish where you may park now. We do not quote an unverified parking charge.
Pirámides de Güímar: choosing your ticket
The park combines stepped stone structures with exhibitions and botanical spaces. Choose admission according to the areas you want to explore; different tickets do not necessarily include the same experiences. The official ticket catalogue currently displays the following options:
| Option | Displayed price | Suggested minimum visit |
|---|---|---|
| Basic admission | €12.50 | 1 hour |
| Full admission | €18 | 2 hours |
| Full admission with audioguide | €26 | 2.5 hours |
Basic admission includes the pyramids, museum, auditorium, outdoor routes, Sustainable Garden and the “An Ocean… of Plastic” exhibition. Full admission extends access to the exhibitions and gardens. Before paying, check the option’s contents and the rate for each visitor: catalogue prices do not replace checking your date, age category or any applicable discount.

Park opening hours, booking and facilities
The park’s own website gives opening hours of 10 am–6 pm, every day except 1 January and 25 December. Do not plan a 9:30 am arrival based on sellers still displaying an earlier opening time.
Advance booking is not required for an ordinary visit, although the park recommends arranging guided visits and larger groups beforehand. It has parking at the main entrance and on its northern side. The address is Calle Chacona, s/n, and the park directs drivers to exit 22 of the TF-1.
Bring comfortable shoes, water and sun protection. Balance outdoor sections with exhibitions and breaks according to your group’s needs; a late arrival leaves less time before closing.
Getting there from Villa Dolce Vita
By car or taxi
A car makes it easier to adjust stops when visiting both places in one day. From Armeñime, plan your route towards the TF-1 in the Santa Cruz direction, then follow current directions to your chosen destination. Check traffic and access before leaving; we do not promise a fixed journey time.
For a taxi or private transfer, request a quote covering the itinerary, stops, waiting time and return journey. A party of up to nine may need more than one vehicle or a suitable larger transfer. Ask in advance for child seats or an adapted vehicle if required.
By bus: allow for connections
TITSA route 111 links Costa Adeje and Santa Cruz along the TF-1, serving the Candelaria and Güímar junctions. Motorway stops are not the basilica or park entrance. Add the journey from the villa to your departure point.
Route 120 connects Santa Cruz, Candelaria’s Plaza de Teror, Puertito de Güímar and Güímar bus station. Check your connection and the final walk or taxi leg with TITSA. Plan the return as well; for a simpler public-transport day, choosing just one destination may be more comfortable.
Accessibility: check the route that suits you
The park advertises adapted routes for visitors with reduced mobility. Ask about the specific paths, toilets, slopes and resting points you need at piramides@piramidesdeguimar.es. We do not treat that general description as a guarantee that every experience suits every visitor.
In Candelaria, the works make it particularly important to confirm the current pedestrian route and a legal passenger drop-off or collection point. We do not describe the square under construction as entirely barrier-free. If travelling by bus, route 111 marks certain departures as adapted: check the vehicle, stop and connection you intend to use.
Return to the pool with the Buddha
After visiting Candelaria and Güímar, return to Villa Dolce Vita for time beside the private pool, with pool heating included in your stay. The villa has four bedrooms, three full bathrooms and a separate WC and room for up to nine guests: a base for combining island outings with relaxed time together at home.
For another coastal outing, explore our El Médano and Montaña Roja guide. To plan your holiday, check Villa Dolce Vita’s dates and prices.
